Dr. David Rex Hamilton is originally from Baltimore, Maryland, who graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from Dartmouth College with an undergraduate degree in physics and mathematics. This was followed by earning a Master of Science degree in biomedical engineering at the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia.
He has had a varied background and the opportunity to practice all over the country. Although he worked for several years in product planning and marketing for MRI systems at Siemens Medical Systems, a career in medicine called to him.
He completed his medical education at the University of California, Irvine, which was followed by residency training at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute. After completing his residency, Dr. Hamilton spent another year of training as a fellow in refractive, cornea, anterior segment, cataract and glaucoma surgery at Minnesota Eye Consultants. He spent 15 years as a member of the faculty at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute, where he was the Medical Director of the UCLA Laser Refractive Center before leaving to become part of the private practice world.
Dr. Hamilton has spent many years of his career conducting clinical research. He has extensive expertise in premium intraocular lenses, along with corneal biomechanics and imaging. He’s the author of 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and currently serves on the Refractive/Cataract Clinical Subcommittee for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Hamilton spent a month in China in 2019 travelling to 7 different cities to give lectures to residents, other ophthalmologists, and patients about refractive surgery.
When he’s not helping patients achieve visual freedom, you can usually find Dr. Hamilton with his son, who is a true master of the Rubik’s Cube! They went to the World Championships in Melbourne in 2019 and you can even check out a documentary called “Speed Cubers” on Netflix, some of which was filmed at their house!

"I can't imagine another profession more rewarding than vision correction surgery. Whether it's eliminating contact lenses with SMILE/LASIK/EVO, or restoring vision with Refractive Lens Exchange, I am honored, every day, to share my passion for precise outcomes with my patients!" - Dr. Hamilton
Determining if you are a candidate for laser vision correction starts with your personalized consultation. The consultation is completely free with no obligations. This enables us to perform a few optometry exams to understand your current vision issues. Once that is determined your vision correction options can be presented and discussed with you.
