What is an EVO ICL?
ICL stands for implantable collamer lens. The EVO ICL functions similarly to a contact lens, but instead of putting the EVO ICL in daily, you have it implanted in your eye.
The EVO ICL is an additive lens placed behind the iris, the colored part of your eye. Working in harmony with the natural lens of your eye, you cannot feel or see the EVO ICL.
Even if you’re not a good candidate for other vision correction procedures like LASIK, you may still qualify for the EVO ICL.
How is this Procedure Different from Other Vision Correction Procedures?
The EVO ICL can treat from -3.00, up to -16 diopters of nearsightedness, with up to 4.00 diopters of astigmatism. Making most patients eligible for EVO.
The EVO ICL is placed in your eye through a small opening by your IQ Laser Vision surgeon. Unlike cataract surgery, when you have the EVO ICL inserted, it doesn’t involve removing the natural lens.
After your EVO ICL surgery, your surgeon will make any necessary adjustments to ensure that the EVO ICL is in the correct position.
Although meant to be permanent, the EVO ICL can be removed by your doctor at any time. Allowing you the flexibility for any upgraded technology in the future.
Both eyes are done on the same day in our office. Taking only 15-20 minutes to complete. This quick and comfortable procedure will have you seeing clearly, usually the very next day.
Introducing the EVO ICL
At IQ Laser Vision, it’s our pleasure to announce we now offer the EVO ICL! The EVO ICL is the latest in implantable collamer lens technology. This lens can correct a wide range of refractive errors, meaning that the team at IQ Laser Vision can help more patients see clearly and embrace better vision.
The EVO ICL surgery can correct up to -20 diopters of nearsightedness and can correct or reduce a range of -3 to -20 diopters of myopic astigmatism. It can also treat astigmatism at a range of 1 diopter to 4 diopters.
EVO ICL vs. LASIK
Because both EVO ICL and LASIK correct your vision, it’s easy to compare both procedures. However, there’s a lot that sets these procedures apart.
LASIK Treats Nearsightedness, Farsightedness, and Astigmatism
One way that LASIK and EVO ICL differ is what they can correct. LASIK can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, all refractive errors. The EVO ICL, however, can only treat nearsightedness with or without astigmatism.
Reversible Vision Correction Procedure
Many patients considering the EVO ICL love it because it offers peace of mind. The EVO ICL is the first and only reversible vision correction procedure.
LASIK and other laser vision correction procedures like PRK and SMILE are permanent because they reshape the cornea using a laser to correct refractive errors.
Significantly Reduces Dry Eye Due to Biocompatibility
Suppose you have dry eyes or want to pick a vision correction procedure that works in harmony with your eyes. In that case, the EVO ICL is biocompatible with the chemistry of your eyes. The EVO ICL is made of a proprietary material called collamer, derived from collagen, reducing the chances of experiencing post-operative dry eyes or worsening of dry eyes.
Who is a Good Candidate?
Many patients may be good candidates for the EVO ICL. The EVO ICL may be a better fit for some people than LASIK. You may be a good candidate for the EVO ICL if the following apply to you:
- You’re between the ages of 21 and 45
- You have moderate to high degrees of nearsightedness between -3 D to -20 D with or without astigmatism
- Your prescription hasn’t changed more than 0.5D for a year
- The eye specialist told you that you aren’t a good LASIK candidate due to dry eyes or having thinner corneas.
- You don’t have a history of eye conditions like diabetic retinopathy, iritis, or glaucoma
- You are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding

Recap on why we think the EVO ICL is a good choice for vision correction:
THE PROCEDURE IS FAST
The EVO ICL procedure is fast, taking only a few minutes for your eye surgeon to complete. Recovery from this refractive procedure is also quick, with most patients returning to work the next day and seeing an immediate improvement in their vision.
REDUCED DEPENDENCE ON GLASSES AND CONTACT LENSES
Many patients who choose the EVO ICL find that they no longer need to wear glasses and contact lenses. It’s possible to achieve visual freedom!
The EVO ICL corrects nearsightedness and mild astigmatism, allowing you to finally attain the vision you’ve always wanted.
YOU CAN HAVE THE IT REMOVED
What you do with your vision is in your hands, including changing your mind about the EVO ICL. You can have the EVO ICL removed at any time.
While the EVO ICL has a 99% satisfaction rate among patients, you may find taking it out the right thing to do if your prescription changes.
THE PROCEDURE WON’T RESHAPE YOUR CORNEA
Unlike procedures like LASIK or SMILE, the EVO ICL never reshapes your cornea. If you’ve found out you can’t get LASIK or other vision correction procedures because your corneas are too thin, the EVO ICL is an excellent option.
YES, IT IS SAFE FOR DRY EYES
If you have a predisposition to dry eyes, getting a vision correction procedure like LASIK can exacerbate existing symptoms. However, the EVO ICL is different because its composition is collamer. Collamer is biocompatible with the chemistry of your eyes.
For people concerned about dry eyes, the EVO ICL is safe and won’t worsen your symptoms.
Although there are many advantages to choosing the EVO ICL, they aren’t suitable for everyone. Find out if EVO ICL is a good fit for you.
