It’s been two weeks since I got my vision corrected at IQ Laser Vision in LA and I honestly couldn’t be happier, not just with my new 20/20 vision but also the entire surgery and post-op process. Plus, it was a perfect opportunity for me to make a mini road trip out of it and see my parents for a bit since they still live in SoCal!

The surgery itself: the staff and doctors at IQ Laser Vision made me feel like I was in very capable hands. Before the surgery, they made sure to answer any last-minute questions I had and talked me through after-surgery care. During the procedure, my doctor talked me through the entire thing and before I knew it, we were done!

COVID safety measures: they took my temperature before allowing me to enter the clinic and made sure any pre-surgery medications were taken outside the office since it would require me to take my mask off. I noticed that there were only one or two other patients in the office at the same time I was, so social distancing was never an issue

Post-op appointments: since I currently live in SF, I was able to have my post-op appointments at their Cupertino office instead of having to go all the way back down to one of their SoCal offices!

Overall, I highly recommend IQ Laser Vision to anyone who’s thinking about getting their vision corrected! My total recovery time was approximately a day (which is honestly nothing!) and then I was back to doing normal everyday things. I don’t think I can accurately convey my excitement and anticipation when I lost my RGP (rigid gas permeable) lenses for the 12093810239th time and my mom said, “When you graduate, let’s get you LASIK surgery.” I HAD (heehehe wooo) a very high prescription and had been wearing glasses since 1st grade, and RGP lenses since 3rd grade. There have been many activities and events that I avoided because of these lenses and glasses.

I came here for a consultation (free, mandatory) to get some tests done and learn about my options. The staff here work like a well-oiled machine; each individual has a specific role and function. The quality of customer service is top-notch. They do not skimp or cut corners with the vision tests, and they double- and triple-checked, which can be a bit time-consuming but when it comes to my vision and my eyes, I’d much rather be safe than sorry. Feel free to ask all the question you have.

One thing to note is that if you wear soft lenses, you should stop wearing them for at least three days before the consultation. If you wear RGP lenses, you should stop wearing them for at least three WEEKS before the consultation. The reason for this is to make sure that the measurements they take during the consultation are accurate and not distorted due to contacts lens wear.

The actual Lasik surgery process was relatively quick and pain-free. Dr. Lin was very calm during the process, which helped a lot. The thing that helped me the most, however, was when the staff assisting him put her hand on mine during this one part of the procedure that was (in my opinion) the scariest.

It’s been about a month after my procedure and I sometimes forget that I’m not wearing contacts. My eyesight has been fluctuating a bit but I’ve been told that that’s normal, and it will stabilize as my eyes heal over the next few months and as my eyes become less dry. During my last checkup, my eyesight was declared 20/20. The absolute best part is waking up in the morning and not having to fumble around.

If you’re on the fence about getting Lasik, I’d say sooner is better than later. If you’ve already had contacts and glasses for a long time, why not get checked now? The stronger your prescription is, the more expensive the surgery will be. In any case, the consultation is free so you might as well take the opportunity to learn some more about this and see what your options are.

I am incredibly thankful for the doctors and staff of IQ laser vision for giving me clear vision through the SMILE procedure. As an optometrist, it was surreal learning about the newer procedure back in optometry school and then having the opportunity to take part in it. SMILE stuck out to me, due to how it only required a small incision without the need of the flap in LASIK. One random day I had decided to start looking into LASIK. I posted a status on my Facebook asking friends what they recommended. I got an overwhelmingly positive response and a majority of friends who don’t even know each other recommended Dr Lin at IQ. I signed up for 2 consultations – one with IQ and another at laser eye center.

Steve Higa and the entire staff at IQ were nothing short of amazing. Veronica my coordinator and Kevin who did my eye cleaning with the most enthusiasm I’ve ever witnessed made me feel really comfortable and relaxed. Every single staff member was so friendly. Now the day of the LASIK procedure I was a nervous wreck because as far as major surgeries go, this is as major as it gets. The entire staff was reassuring and STEVE stayed past his work hours to just chat with me and keep me distracted while I waited. THANKS STEVE

The surgery itself was so darn quick I couldn’t believe it. Dr Lin talked me through all the steps and was so calm – really made a difference when you know what to expect when he’s cutting and shooting lasers at your eyeball.

Today is the morning after and I’m on the way to my follow up. I CAN SEE!!!!!!!!!! Everyone was right: this is the most incredible feeling ever. I had my lasik done last week with dr. lin and so far so good! This place is extremely efficient and professional. I was really hesitant to do lasik b/c I was scared and I didn’t mind my contacts, but now I’m so happy I can wake up and see clearly without scrambling to get my glasses. Long overdue review (I received my procedure in December of 2011) but better late than never right?

So my eyes were bad, like legally blind bad, I think my prescription was -14.0 ish (I’m having trouble remembering now what it was like to be so blind haha). Because my prescription was so high, regular Lasik or even PRK was out of the question. I had to do ICL, which involves implanting a collamer lens (basically a permanent contact) inside your eyeball. Sounds terrifying right?!

Before the procedure my mom had done her research on all the best doctors in this field, reading countless articles and consulting all of her friends in the community. Every source seemed to think Dr. Lin was the best and he’s won a bunch of awards! Also, my sister had a Lasik procedure with him the year before me and it had gone very smoothly. I had to start my consultation more than a year before my procedure, since I had been wearing hard contact lens and needed to make the switch to soft contacts a full year before the procedure. Then, the last week or two, I was supposed to be off contacts completely and switched to glasses, so my eyeball shapes could be fully adjusted to their normal state.

As mentioned by another reviewer, I was fine until I thoroughly read all the paperwork about all the risks and possible complications and completely freaked myself out. Do yourself a favor and just sign on the dotted line =P.

During the procedure itself, I won’t lie but it was a very scary process. ICL is a much more in-depth procedure than Lasik and the whole thing probably took about an hour, and I was awake the whole time! I was given shots of anesthesia into my eyeball (which hurt!) and then the procedure involved making an incision and then sliding in the collamer lenses. Although very nerve-wracking (they even gave me an anti-anxiety pill beforehand), after the anesthesia shots nothing else hurt, and it just felt like a lot of pressure on my eyes. Dr. Lin was very kind and talked me through what he was doing and advised me when he was almost done. He also gave me a break between eyes.

The recovery time is also a little rough compared to Lasik, my vision wasn’t perfect the next day and it probably took a good week for my eyesight to adjust but I am proud to report that I now have 20/15 in one eye, and 20/20 in the other =). Knowing this though, definitely leave yourself a good week to recover without having to go right back to school/work. I was in bed for most of the first few days after.

Laser IQ is also great about follow-up appointments and providing a support system for you as you recover (with 1 day after follow-ups, 1 month follow-ups, 3 month follow-ups, and 1 year follow-ups!). I also got a supplementary minor procedure to fix some lingering astigmatism a year after my ICL procedure, free of charge!

Shooting lasers at your eyes is a scary process, but I can honestly say I wouldn’t have trusted my precious eyes to anyone but Dr. Lin. You can do it too, having perfect vision now is so worth it!

If you are thinking about having laser surgery–you must know about IQ Laser Vision ! I just had my surgery this month, and I can’t stop raving about Dr. Lin and his entire staff. From the first call to the after care, everyone at IQ was knowledgeable, kind and personable. They turned what could have been somewhat stressful into a spa-like experience. I was really surprised at how quick and easy the entire process is. And very importantly, I had NO pain! This surgery really is miraculous.
