The Wavefront Device

Your eyes are as unique as any other part of you. In fact, as you
may have heard, security experts are increasingly promoting the use
of corneal scans to identify people at airports and other security
checkpoints. This is because no two eyes are alike, including your
own two eyes, which even have differences between them.
A wavefront device captures the unique characteristics of each of
your eyes and allows your doctor to completely customize your laser
vision correction procedure. The wavefront device creates a "map" of
your eyes that goes beyond traditional vision testing. It works by
passing a narrow ray of eye-safe light through the optical system
and measuring the optical distortions as the light exits the eye.
In order to totally customize your laser vision correction
procedure, your doctor's wavefront device should feed the wavefront
maps it generates of your eyes directly into the laser system, such
that the maps become the laser's guide for your treatment. These
maps should direct the laser, telling it exactly how to reshape your
corneas to correct your vision. This is known as a wavefront-guided
procedure, and it's the most desirable because through the direct
link between the wavefront device and the laser system, you receive
vision correction that's customized to be as unique as your eyes. |
